I kind of like that they just shamelessly shift around lore and retcon stuff in order to rebuild the world between games. It makes it a lot easier to tell coherent, individual stories without twisting themselves around to fit previous games' lore. Not to beat a dead horse because I know it's a reddit favorite, but Bioware basically wrote themselves into a corner with the whole ending to ME3 and not being willing/able to just choose a canon ending without upsetting fans. And they get a lot of shit for retconning stuff in Dragon Age (especially Origin's ending slides).

Larian's constant retconning makes it easier for them to just change things for convenience without getting too much flack, and it means they have more freedom in the narratives and spend less time explaining stuff from previous games or bending over backwards to make things consistent. That's not to say that narrative consistency across games isn't fun in games where it works, but I like that they don't feel it's something they have to do.

The Divinity series will live on in an unexpected way with the upcoming release of Divinity: Fallen Heroes.Fallen Heroes is not Divinity: Original Sin 3, but it will take place sometime after the. It will also feature some of the same characters, areas, enemies, character classes, and other familiar elements seen in that incredible 2017 RPG.The big difference between Fallen Heroes and the rest of the series is that Fallen Heroes is a tactical strategy game that is already being compared to XCOM.

However, that comparison isn't entirely accurate. It is true that Fallen Heroes sees you select missions (there are 60 missions overall) and depart from a home base (in this case, the flying Lady Vengeance ship), in order to complete various objectives. It also seems that you will assign characters skills (of which there are over 200) and equipment similar to what we've seen in the recent XCOM games.However, Fallen Heroes shares more DNA with the Original Sin games than you might think. First off, its combat system seems to be much closer to the one seen in Original Sin 2 than what you're probably used to in XCOM and games similar to that series. Second, and more importantly, Fallen Heroes will retain many of the RPG elements that made Original Sin 2such a hit.

That means that you'll still need to make tough decisions and deal with the gameplay and story consequences those decisions result in. If anything, you could think of this game as a streamlined version of the Original Sin titles.While Original Sin 2was one of the best pure RPG experiences released over the last decade (at the very least), this spin on that game's formula certainly sounds appealing. However, given how successful genre games like and have been, we think that Fallen Heroes could be much more than that.
